Bring the Dragon's Flame to Your Book Club
Of Fire and Fate is more than a romance — it is a story about survival, resilience, reclaiming your voice, and daring to trust again. It tends to spark exactly the kind of conversation that makes a book club session unforgettable.
About the Book
Of Fire and Fate is Book 1 of the Dragon's Flame Series — a paranormal romance for adult readers that follows Seraphine, a woman who has escaped an abusive, cult-like marriage and is living in hiding under a false name. When she unexpectedly crosses paths with Draven, the King of a secret dragon-shifter kingdom, the encounter sets in motion a story about healing, belonging, and the courage it takes to open your heart after it has been broken.
The series continues with Book 2, Of Ice and Innocence, due for release in July 2026 — so if your club enjoys the first book, there is plenty more to look forward to.

Why It Works for Book Clubs
Of Fire and Fate has been read by clubs who found it unexpectedly rich ground for discussion. Here is why:
-
Weighty themes with heart. The novel deals honestly with domestic abuse, coercive control, trauma, and recovery — but always with warmth and hope. These themes invite deep, meaningful conversation without leaving readers in despair.
-
A dual narrative. The story is told from both Seraphine's and Draven's perspectives, which opens up interesting discussions about how two people can experience the same relationship very differently.
-
The fantasy element is accessible. You don't need to be a fantasy reader to connect with this story. The dragon-shifter world-building is rich but never overwhelming, and it serves the emotional story rather than competing with it.
-
Questions of agency and choice. The mate bond at the centre of the story raises fascinating questions about fate, free will, and what it really means to choose someone freely — perfect for lively debate.
-
The novel ends with a tantalising setup for Book 2, so clubs who enjoy it have something to look forward to together.
Content Warnings
I believe strongly in informed reading. Of Fire and Fate and the Book 2 preview chapter included at the end of the book contain content that some readers may find distressing. Please share these with your members before they begin:
-
Domestic violence and physical abuse (depicted on-page, including in the opening chapter)
-
Psychological and emotional abuse and coercive control
-
Cult dynamics and religious manipulation
-
Stalking and being hunted
-
PTSD symptoms: panic attacks, hypervigilance, and flashbacks
-
Violence, including a near-fatal attack
-
Explicit sexual content
-
References to a character's suicidal death (Laya's mother, in the Book 2 preview chapter at the end of the book)
-
Forced claiming and non-consensual sexual threat: the Book 2 preview depicts a ritual called The Chase, in which women are hunted and claimed against their will, with themes of sexual coercion and potential rape

About the Author
Karen Hunter is an indie author and the creator of the Dragon's Flame Series. Of Fire and Fate is her debut novel, published in 2026. She wrote it because she wanted to tell a story about a woman who survives, heals, and finds her way back to herself — and because she believes those stories deserve to be told with both honesty and hope.
Karen grew up in the UK and, though now travelling abroad, remains connected to her roots and is particularly delighted when her books find readers closer to home.
