English reading practice - BHS goes into Administration (B1/B2 intermediate level English)

BHS, or British Home Stores, was a big store in the UK that sold lots of different things like clothes, furniture, and electronics. It started in 1928 in London and grew to become very popular with people because it had good prices and lots of stuff to buy.

But BHS had some problems over the years. Other shops started to compete with it and people started buying more things online instead of going to the store. BHS also had problems with bosses and ownership changes.

In 2015, BHS was sold to a man who didn't know much about running shops. Sadly, things got even worse under his management. BHS couldn't pay its debts and pensions, so it had to stop trading on 25th April 2016. This meant that lots of people who worked there lost their jobs.

The collapse of BHS was very sad and affected lots of people. Many people think that there should be better rules to stop things like this from happening in the future.

Even though BHS had problems at the end of its time in business, many people still remember it as a special part of British shopping. BHS was important because it sold affordable things and was a big part of the UK retail industry. Although it's not around anymore, BHS will always be remembered by people who shopped there and in the buildings that still have its name.
