English reading practice - Charles Darwin's Death (B1/B2 intermediate level English)

Charles Darwin is a famous scientist who is well known for his ideas about how living things change and evolve over time. He was born in England in 1809 and came from a wealthy family. He was the fifth of six children. Darwin loved studying nature from a young age and eventually went to college in Cambridge, to study science.

In 1831, Darwin went on a 5-year trip around the world on a ship called the HMS Beagle. He collected many samples and studied the natural world, which helped him develop his theory of evolution by natural selection. This idea means that over time, living things change and adapt to their environment in order to survive.

When Darwin published his book "On the Origin of Species" in 1859, it caused a big reaction in the scientific world. His ideas challenged the traditional beliefs about how the world was created. Darwin continued to work on his ideas and wrote many other important books about science. He died on this day April 19, 1882, at the age of 73.

Even today, Darwin's ideas continue to be important and have changed the way we understand biology and the natural world. He is considered one of the most important scientists in history and is an inspiration to those who are curious about the world around us.
