English reading practice - Death of Inventor of Phone(B1/B2 intermediate level English)

Updated: Aug 3, 2023

Alexander Graham Bell is a very famous person who made the telephone. He was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell was really smart and loved learning new things, and because of this, he changed the way people talk to each other forever.

When Bell was growing up, he was surrounded by people who liked to learn and make new things. His dad and grandad were important in teaching people how to speak better. Bell liked the way sounds and words worked, and this came from his family.

Bell learned about sounds and speaking when he was young, and this helped him when he got older. He went to special schools to learn more about sound and how people communicate. He also learned about bodies and electricity, which were important for his later inventions.

Later he lived in Canada and after in Boston. Bell worked really hard on a special machine. This machine became the telephone. It could send voices over long distances, which changed the world and how people talk to each other.

Bell had some problems because other people said they made the telephone first but he didn't give up, and with the help of his friends and money from important people, he showed that he was the real inventor of the telephone.

Even though the telephone is the most famous thing Bell made, he did many other important things. He liked to learn about lots of different subjects, like flying and helping sick people. He also helped people who couldn't hear very well or were deaf by finding better ways for them to talk.

People all over the world use telephones and other ways of talking because of Bell. He changed the world and how we communicate. His ideas are still important today, and we remember him for his hard work and how he liked to learn and teach others.

Bell died on this day 2nd August 1922, but we still remember everything he did. His ideas remind us that when we want to make new things and learn, we can do amazing things, just like he did.
