English reading practice - Land Rover Defender Launched (B1/B2 intermediate level English)

The Land Rover Defender is a popular car that has been around for over 70 years. It is a British classic, known for being tough, long-lasting, and great for driving off-road.

The first Land Rover was launched on this day 30th April 1948 and was sold for £450 at a car show in Amsterdam. It was made to be a car that could be used off-road and on-road for many different things, like farming, military use, and regular driving. The original Land Rover was simple and easy to fix, so it was popular as a way to explore places other cars could reach.

The Land Rover changed over time, but it always stayed good at driving off-road. In 1983, the Defender was made as a newer version of the Land Rover. It was more comfortable, but still tough and durable.

People have used the Defender for lots of different things over the years, and it has been in many movies and TV shows, like James Bond's "Skyfall" and the TV show "Top Gear".

In 2016, they stopped making the Defender, which made lots of people sad. But in 2019, they announced that they were bringing it back. The new Defender still has the toughness of the original, but it also has new technology, better comfort, and it uses less fuel.

This legendary vehicle has captured the hearts of many. Does your country have an iconic car? Let me know in the comments.
