On this day 15th June 1929 and 16th June, the Circuit de la Sarthe, a gruelling 13.492-kilometer (8.3-mile) circuit, played host to the 17th edition of the Le Mans 24-Hour race. The iconic track, characterised by long straights, treacherous corners, and the famous Mulsanne Straight, tested the mettle of both drivers and their machines. Le Mans, already renowned for its rich automotive heritage, became a pilgrimage destination for motorsport enthusiasts from around the world.
In 1929 the Le Mans race attracted an impressive line-up of teams and drivers, with a total of 33 entries. Various iconic car manufacturers such as Bentley, Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, and Chrysler were among the contenders, each vying for glory and the opportunity to leave their mark.
