English reading practice - Loch Ness Monster Sighted (B1/B2 intermediate level English)

The Loch Ness Monster is a mysterious legend that has been around for many years. People have reported seeing a strange creature in the deep waters of Loch Ness, which is a big freshwater lake in Scotland.

The first person to report seeing the monster was an Irish monk named St. Columba in the year 565 A D. Since then, many people have claimed to see it, and some have tried to take pictures of it. On this day 2nd May 1933, a photograph of a strange, serpent-like creature in the water was published in the Daily Mail, and the legend of the Loch Ness Monster was born.

Original Photo By Author disputed, but was originally published under the claimed authorship of Robert Kenneth Wilson. Image from Daily Mail., Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=196634

Some people think the monster is a type of dinosaur that lived a long time ago. Others think it might be a very large fish. Some people even believe that it's all made up and not real.

Scientists have tried to study the lake and its creatures, but they haven't found any proof of the monster. However, the story of the Loch Ness Monster is still very popular and many people come to Scotland to see if they can catch a glimpse of it.

Even if the monster is not real, it is a fun and interesting story that people enjoy talking about.
