English reading practice - Paul McCartney leaves The Beatles (B1/B2 intermediate level English)

Paul McCartney is a famous musician from Liverpool, England. He was born in 1942 and grew up in a musical family. When he was young, he learned to play the guitar and started writing songs. Later, he met John Lennon, and they formed a band called The Beatles.


The Beatles became very popular in the 1960s and were known for their catchy songs and progressive music. McCartney played bass guitar and sang in the band. Some of their most famous songs include "Hey Jude," "Let It Be," and "Yesterday."


McCartney officially announced he was leaving The Beatles on this day 10th April 1970 and started his own solo career. He continues to write songs and release albums and has worked with other famous musicians like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. He has also been involved in many charity projects and environmental causes.

Over the years, McCartney has won many awards and honours for his music. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. Today aged 80, he is still making music and performing live concerts. He is a musical icon who has influenced many other musicians and continues to be loved by fans around the world.
