English reading practice - Royal Wedding (B1/B2 intermediate level English)

There are some events that capture the whole world's attention, and one of those events is a royal wedding. On this day 29th July 1981, the then Prince of Wales, Charles, married Lady Diana Spencer in a big ceremony that everyone will always remember. It was like a beautiful fairy tale that brought hope and happiness to many people.

The love story between Prince Charles and Lady Diana started long before their wedding day. They were introduced to each other because their families had known each other for a long time. They fell in love over time and eventually decided to get married. Even though they seemed to be an unlikely pair because Charles was a prince, and Diana was a teacher, their love story inspired people all around the world, like a fairy tale coming true.

The wedding took place at a famous cathedral called St. Paul's Cathedral in London. It was a majestic place with a big dome and a lot of history. The ceremony was full of tradition and grandeur. Many people from different countries came to see the royal couple and celebrate this special day.

It wasn't just a national event; it was a worldwide celebration. People from 74 countries, about 750 million of them, watched the wedding on TV. It was one of the most-watched events in television history. People from all over the world were excited to see the romantic union of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.

On the wedding day, Lady Diana looked stunning in her beautiful ivory silk taffeta gown decorated with lace, sequins, and pearls. Her gown had a 25-foot-long train that made her look like a princess from a fairy tale.

The wedding ceremony mixed old royal traditions with some personal touches from Charles and Diana. Diana made a decision that was unusual for royal weddings; she didn't promise to "obey" Charles in her vows. It showed that they were also embracing modern ways.

One of the sweetest moments of the ceremony was when Charles and Diana exchanged loving glances and smiles. Their love touched the hearts of the people watching, and it was clear that their love was real and special.

The wedding is still famous and loved by many generations. It showed that dreams can come true, just like in a fairy tale. As time passed, Charles and Diana faced challenges in their marriage, but the memory of their magical wedding day remains a symbol of love and royalty that will never be forgotten.
