One of the gallery's most famous paintings is the Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck, which is an early example of oil painting. The painting features a wealthy couple dressed in the fashion of the time, standing in a room filled with intricate details and symbols.

Another highlight of the National Gallery's collection is Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers, a series of paintings depicting sunflowers in different stages of growth. The bright colours and thick brushstrokes used by van Gogh have made this painting a beloved and iconic work of art.

The gallery also has an extensive collection of British art, including works by J.M.W. Turner, John Constable, and William Hogarth. The gallery's collection of works by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, such as Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne, is also noteworthy.

Visitors to the National Gallery can take guided tours, attend lectures and workshops, and explore the collection on their own. The gallery also has a range of restaurants and cafes, as well as a gift shop where visitors can purchase prints, books, and other souvenirs.

In addition to its permanent collection, the National Gallery also hosts a range of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. These exhibitions offer visitors the opportunity to see works by contemporary artists and explore themes and topics related to art history.

Overall, the National Gallery is a must-see destination for art lovers visiting London. Its world-class collection, stunning architecture, and vibrant cultural events make it a unique and unforgettable experience. Whether you are a seasoned art enthusiast or simply looking for an inspiring and educational day out, the National Gallery is a place not to be missed.
