English reading practice - Travel - Bucket List (C1/C2 Advanced)

Do you ever find yourself lost in daydreams of far-off lands, enchanted by the allure of exotic cultures and breathtaking landscapes? If so, you're not alone. The allure of travel is undeniable, and for many, it's the promise of exploring new horizons that fuels their wanderlust. Join me on a journey through some of the world's most captivating dream destinations, each brimming with its own unique charm and allure.

Here are the places on my bucket list that I want to visit.

  1. Japan: Japan is a country that effortlessly marries tradition with modernity, offering a tapestry of experiences that enchant travellers from around the globe. From the snow-capped peaks of Mount Fuji to the tranquil gardens of Kyoto, Japan is a country of endless wonders waiting to be explored.

  2. Machu Picchu, Peru: Hidden high in the Andes Mountains, Machu Picchu is a testament to the ingenuity of the ancient Inca civilisation. Trekking along the Inca Trail to reach this archaeological wonder promises to be an experience like no other, with panoramic views of mist-shrouded mountains and lush cloud forests. Standing amidst the ruins of Machu Picchu, you can easily imagine the achievements of those who came before us.

  3. Safari in Tanzania: For wildlife enthusiasts, there's nothing quite like embarking on a safari adventure in Tanzania. From the vast plains of the Serengeti to the majestic peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, this East African gem offers unparalleled opportunities to witness the wonders of the natural world up close. Keep your eyes peeled for the Big Five – lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos – as you traverse the savannah in search of unforgettable encounters.

  4. Exploring the United States: My dream is to embark on an epic road trip across all 50 states, ticking off iconic landmarks and hidden gems along the way. The United States is home to some of the most awe-inspiring natural landscapes on the planet, preserved for future generations to enjoy in its national parks. From the otherworldly rock formations of Arches National Park to the verdant forests of Olympic National Park, there's no shortage of beauty to behold. My bucket list includes visiting every one of these national treasures, immersing myself in the splendour of nature and seeking out encounters with wildlife along the way.

  5. Amazon Rainforest, Brazil: The Amazon Rainforest is a place of unparalleled biodiversity, teeming with life at every turn. From colourful Macaws soaring overhead to elusive Jaguars prowling through the undergrowth, the Amazon is a wildlife enthusiast's paradise. Exploring the winding waterways of the Amazon River and trekking through the dense jungle canopy are experiences that promise to ignite the senses and awaken the spirit of adventure within.

  6. Galápagos Islands, Ecuador: Nestled in the Pacific Ocean, the Galápagos Islands are a living laboratory of evolution, where Charles Darwin was inspired to develop his theory of natural selection. Today, these remote islands are home to an incredible array of endemic species found nowhere else on Earth, from giant tortoises to marine iguanas. Snorkelling alongside playful Sea Lions and hiking across volcanic landscapes are just a few of the unforgettable experiences awaiting visitors to this enchanting island.

With each new destination added to my travel bucket list, the sense of wanderlust only grows stronger. Whether it's witnessing the sunrise over Machu Picchu or marvelling at the wildlife of the Galápagos Islands, these dream destinations beckon with the promise of adventure and discovery. So let's set sail for new horizons, explore the wonders of the world, and create memories that will last a lifetime. The journey awaits – let's make it extraordinary!
