The joys of selling stuff

As you know me and OH have been giving and selling a lot of our stuff off. It's been great to pay it forward and see some people collect an item they wouldn't have normally been able to afford. We have seen people from all walks of life and at all stages.

We had a double bed base which we just wanted to go to someone who could make use of it since we definitely wouldn't be taking it with us and the house had enough beds in to show it and sell. Who knew it would be such an effort to get it out the door but it did make us laugh at least. (the name of the person has been changed to protect their innocence) but everything else are copies of actual messages.

Jen - Is this still available?

Me - Hi yes when did you want to pick it up?

Jen - Is it free with the mattress

Me - Hi yes if you want the mattress to it's still free

Jen - Do you deliver?

Me - No, afraid not, I have a very small car

Jen - Oh okay will have to leave it then

Me - It would fit in a normal-sized car as we had another bed go last week.

Where about's are you

Jen - (Gave a location about 20 minutes drive away)

Me - Bit far to walk it sorry

Jen - It's okay

A few days later.......

Jen - I this still available

Me - Yes its still available if you can collect

Jen - I'll ask if there is someone able to collect. Could I also have measurements

Me - It is a standard-sized double so 132cm x 190cm.

The base is 37cm deep plus the wheels and the mattress is 18cm deep memory foam.

Jen - Let me forward that and i'll see if she is able to measure if it fits

Me - the one that went last week took 2 trips but

the base fit in one and the mattress and draws in the second

Jen - Okay she is going the measure when she gets home and will let me know

Jen - Then I will speak to my mom about picking it up

she's got a people carrier, didn't think of that last night.

Me - Well just let me know

Jen - Will do she is just on her way home from work

Jen - Is it okay to let you know after 2 tomorrow as she's

going to get a tape measure she has lost hers and if it will fit

we can collect Saturday morning as mom is working

Me - Yes that's fine

Jen - Thank you

I thought it was all sorted and was ready to go out the door on Saturday, which is good as I had parked it in my hallway and had to climb over it every time I wanted to get up the stairs. I just wanted it gone hence why I was giving it away.

The next day........

Jen - The length of the room is 6' 2" would it fit? Sorry I'm useless with math

Me - It is 6'3" by 4'4" all beds are the same length generally

so you might struggle with any unless you have it going the

other way in the room. Is it square or longer the other way

Jen - Square the small double that's in there now nearly

fitted but because of the bottom and headboard it didn't

as it lifts up but as it doesn't have the bottom or headboard

was wondering if it would

Me - Well there is no headboard so you have a good

chance but don't know until you try it

Jen - Is it okay if we try it

Me - You could always sell it on if it doesn't fit

Jen - We wouldn't have the storage if it didn't fit as only in a bungalow

Me - Your choice but I couldn't take it back I have two houses of

stuff in one house hence why I am trying to get rid of things

for free. You might need a specially made bed to fit

I thought we were done. We were going to give it to the weekend for anyone else who might want it and then smash it up for firewood, anything to get rid of it. Never has something that is free been so hard to get rid of.

The next day......

Jen - If this is still available we will give it a try

Me - yes we still have it. When did you want to collect it?

Jen - Saturday at 9 am?

We were all set and she did turn up at 9 am to collect with a people carrier and a trailer. She could have fit the bed in 10 times over. Never did find out if it fits in her room but it didn't arrive back on my doorstep so I hope so.
